Africa Is a Country is proud to present After Oil, a documentary that moves dynamically between three communities in South Africa, Kenya, and the refugee camps of the Sahrawi Republic in Algeria, as they contend with neoliberal policies, uneven infrastructure, and rising temperatures.

USINDISO: A HOME IN THE CITY

The story of the Usindiso building fire of 2023. The COI into the fire found the city responsible for the scale of deaths. The film also raises questions around the misuse of money allocated by the government for the rehousing of victims of the fire. The overarching question the film raises is around negligence and mismanagement of housing regulations and policy and the reneging of the social right to housing.

“What Do You Hear Underwater? Live” is a live recording of two pieces off Daniel Basckin’s 2020 EP with the same title. ‘Dirge’ and ‘Johannesburg, Finally (In Three Parts) are re-imagined and performed live in the iconic SABC Studios.
